How We4NRI handles attestation services
This group covers the steps that make Indian documents acceptable abroad: MEA apostille, embassy attestation, affidavits and notary services. Which steps you need depends on the document and on the country that will receive it.
We4NRI is a private facilitator in Chennai. We handle the running around in India for clients in the USA, UAE, UK, Canada and Singapore. The Ministry of External Affairs, embassies and notaries make the decisions, and requirements can change, so we confirm them before starting.
Who this is for
- NRIs who must submit Indian certificates to an embassy or foreign authority.
- People moving to Hague Convention countries who need an apostille on documents.
- Families who need an affidavit drafted and notarised in India.
- Anyone unsure which attestation steps their documents need for the destination country.
Questions
Attestation Services FAQ
An apostille is a single certificate used between countries that joined the Hague Convention. Other countries usually need attestation through their embassy, often after state or MEA steps. Which one applies depends on the destination country, so check this first.
Documents usually need prior verification, such as a state or home department attestation, before the Ministry of External Affairs applies the apostille. Education and personal documents follow different routes. Steps vary by document, so confirm before you submit.
An affidavit generally needs the person to sign before a notary or oath commissioner. If you are abroad, you may be able to sign at an Indian mission, or give a power of attorney to someone in India. Acceptance depends on the receiving office.
A notary witnesses a signature or certifies a copy as true. It is often the first step before further attestation or apostille, and many offices ask for it on affidavits and authorisation letters. Confirm the exact wording the receiving office needs.
