About this group

How We4NRI handles nabc / bc services

This group covers birth certificates, the Non Availability of Birth Certificate (NABC) and death registration certificates. These are the records that many NRI families need for passports, OCI, visas and inheritance, and often cannot get from overseas.

We4NRI is a private facilitator based in Chennai. We work with the local registration offices in India on behalf of families in the USA, UAE, UK, Canada and Australia. The government office decides every outcome, and timelines vary by state and office.

Who this is for

  • NRIs whose birth was never registered and who need an NABC for official use.
  • Parents abroad who need an Indian birth certificate for a child born in India.
  • Families who need a death registration certificate for a relative who passed away in India.
  • OCIs and overseas Indians who cannot travel to India just to visit a registrar.

Questions

NABC / BC Services FAQ

Usually through an authorised representative in India. You share identity documents, hospital or school records and a signed authorisation, and the representative applies at the local registration office. Rules vary by state and by how old the birth is, so check current requirements first.

NABC stands for Non Availability of Birth Certificate. It is a record from the registration office stating that no birth entry exists for a given name and date. Passport offices, embassies and other bodies sometimes ask for it when a birth certificate is missing.

Often yes, but late registration needs extra steps such as an affidavit, supporting records and sometimes an order from a local authority. The process varies by state and the period of delay. A facilitator in India can usually handle the visits on your behalf.

The death is normally registered with the local municipal or panchayat office where it happened. You usually need the hospital or cremation records and the identity details of the person. If it was not registered earlier, a delayed registration process applies and varies by state.
